At breakfast this morning one of the riders said, "This is going to be a hard day. I feel lousy and we have the same roads, the same heat, and the same distance as yesterday, with more climbing." I steeled myself for the ride.
The road had the same name, US 40, but it was in very different condition. Much smoother with much less traffic and better shoulders. There were clouds that shielded us from the sun's intensity for much of the day. And, for the first time in a long time, the wind was at our backs. Though the distance was the same as yesterday, the experience of that distance was vastly different.
There was a good deal of climbing-lots of rolling hills-but nothing too difficult. Having a wind helping me up the hills makes a big difference. And the panoramic views were stunning!
I celebrated the completion of the ride with a TCBY yogurt cone and ICE water, with real ICE. What a good day!

I'm sooo enjoying reading your blog Jim... what a tremendous effort this is, and all to glorify God. It humbles me to know people like you. God's speed and safety on the road tomorrow. Thinking about you often, praying and bragging to friends who might be impressed. Mary (and John too who is also terribly impressed)
