"Hallelujah" 1. "Praise the Lord" 2. An exclamation, hymn, or song of praise to God
"Cycle" 1. Bicycle 2. A long period of time; an age 3. A series of poems or songs on the same theme
I am hoping to ride my bicycle from Seattle to Jersey City-3881 miles-over a period of nine weeks. I am doing it to praise God. That's why I'm calling this blog "Jim's Hallelujah Cycle". You won't see poems or songs, but you will read my account of what it is like to peddle across the United States.
I believe this ride praises God on a number of levels: 1. The money we have raised for the poor praises God.
2. Raising the awareness of poverty praises God.
3. Building a new community praises God
4. Peddling a bicycle praises God.
I guesstimate that it will take 1,260,000 revolutions of the pedals to get across the country (70 revolutions/minute, 4200/hour, 300 hours of pedaling) Twenty four years ago I could not make one; I used my arms for each revolution of the wheels on my chair. Multiple Sclerosis had paralyzed my legs.
Riding "Sea to Sea" is my body's doxology to a God who restored my mobility, who has restrained the disease for 24 years, and who has delivered me from the poverty of paralysis so that I could help others who are poor.
In this blog I want to tell praise stories-bicycling stories-stories that "praise God from whom all blessings flow." Thanks for reading them-I trust that will be another action that praises God.
